In this project, the research team will pursue two related but distinct research efforts, one at the global level and one at the national level in Ethiopia. More information about the research specifically about Ethiopia can be found here.
From the global perspective we build a foundational analysis, that is global in scope, upon which research on the gender profitability gap can be built and understood. To do this we are undertaking the following:
- Improving the understanding of the global business and policy environment for women owned enterprises.
- Increasing knowledge of global stylized facts, trends and predictors of the gender profit gap.
- Synthesizing existing research and evidence. Including a systematic survey of the existing gender focused literature as well as a re-examination of data from seminal papers in the broader literature through a gender lens.
This project is generously supported by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to the Ethiopian Economic Association.
